What is Vrikshasana?
Vrikshasana, commonly known as tree pose, is a yoga pose that mimics the beauty and stability of a tree. In Sanskrit, "vriksha" means tree, and this posture symbolizes the characteristics of a tree standing tall and grounded.
How to do Vrikshasana:
Start with a stable base: Stand on both feet with your spine straight and shoulders relaxed.
Shift weight to one leg: Slowly shift your weight to one leg while bending the knee slightly.
Place the foot on the inner thigh or shin: Avoiding the knee joint, bring the ball of your foot to the inner thigh or shin of either standing leg.
Hands in prayer position: Join your palms together in prayer position in front of your chest.
Focus on one point: Choose a fixed point in front of you and focus on it to maintain balance.
Extend arms overhead: If comfortable, raise your arms overhead with palms facing each other.
Benefits of Vrikshasana:-
Better Balance: Regular practice of Vrikshasana helps increase your sense of balance and coordination.
Strengthens leg muscles: This pose activates the standing leg muscles, promoting strength and stability.
Focused Mind: The concentration required to maintain balance produces a focused and calm mind.
Stretches the spine: As you stand taller, Vrikshasana lengthens the spine, which improves posture.
