Adho Mukha Svanasana, commonly known as Downward-Facing Dog Pose, is a yoga pose that resembles an inverted letter “V”. This is a fundamental asana with many benefits for both body and mind.
What is Adho Mukha Svanasana?
Adho Mukha Svanasana is a yoga pose that involves forming an inverted “V” shape with the body. It is often used as a transitional pose, a resting pose, or as part of a sequence. The name comes from the Sanskrit words "adho" meaning "downward," "mukh" meaning "face," and "shvanasana" meaning "dog pose."
How to do Adho Mukha Svanasana:-
Start on your hands and knees in tabletop position, with wrists under shoulders and knees under hips.
Curl your toes, lift your hips toward the ceiling, straighten your legs. Your body should form an inverted V-shape.
Place your hands shoulder-width apart, fingers spread and press them firmly into the mat.
Relax your head and neck, letting it hang freely between your arms.
Engage your thighs, press your heels toward the floor and aim to keep your back straight.
Breathe deeply and hold the position for 30 seconds to a minute, gradually increasing the duration as you become more comfortable.
